624,683 Lights Brightening the Lives of Children and Families Across Quebec

You are the reason that Liam, Adam, Mia and thousands of other children and their families will be able to ooh! and ahh! at the Sainte-Justine Tree of Lights during the holidays. Thank you!  © Jimmy Hamelin

The Sainte-Justine Tree of Lights campaign came to a dazzling conclusion yesterday: with the generous support of people across the province, there are now 624,683 lights* proudly shining in front of the hospital for the children, families and teams of Sainte-Justine.

With this total, we’ve set a new record and exceeded our initial objective. What better way to get the holidays off to a heartwarming start and remind families with a sick child that they are not alone. In the coming weeks, we will see lots of them crossing our threshold, knowing that they’ll have access to the best possible care.

Liam, Adam and Mia, all patients at Sainte-Justine, understand just how precious every glimmer of hope is in the eyes of children, mothers-to-be and the families who love them.

For the past few months, Liam, 7, a patient at the Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau at CHU Sainte-Justine, has been recovering from treatment for retinoblastoma in his left eye. Adam, 6, is on the mend after two recent bowel operations. And Mia, 13, is coping with a rare degenerative condition known as retinitis pigmentosa that is gradually robbing her of her eyesight.

“Hope will continue to shine bright, in my eyes and in my heart, for as long as possible. The Tree of Lights will be lit up for all of us throughout the holidays and inspire scientists the rest of the year. There’s a lot of magic in that. Thank you for being there for them, and for us!”

SAINTE-JUSTINE PATIENT AND 17TH ANNUAL TREE OF LIGHTS AMBASSADOR

Our donors were joined by Rythme and METRO who partnered with the Tree of Lights once again this year. With their help, the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation is pleased to announce that a delightful $3.1 million has been raised.

These funds will help ensure that every child has access to the highest standard of care in every field. And the donations made through METRO grocery stores throughout Quebec will go toward Sainte-Justine’s Social Services Department via the METRO Sainte-Justine Family Assistance Fund in order to ease the financial burden of families struggling to make ends meet while caring for a sick child.

If you haven’t had a chance to renew your commitment yet, there’s still time to add your lights to the Tree. And because every contribution counts, our partners at MEGA BLOKS, a member of the Mattel® family, have pledged to match your donation, dollar for dollar, up to a total of $25,000. Don’t miss your chance to have twice the impact on the families who will be spending the holidays at the hospital this year.

Thank you for helping Sainte-Justine grow beyond its wildest dreams. Happy Holidays!

*Including 166,599 lights lit up by participating FEEP schools and students between November 1 and 30, 2024, as part of the Youth Tree of Lights campaign.
