Cellular and molecular dynamics of vascular development

Scientific Conference of Friday Noon

  • Sébastien Gauvrit, PhD
    • Postdoctoral Fellow, Dept. III - Developmental Genetics, Max Planck Institute of Heart and Lung Research, Bad Nauheim, Germany

During development, organ growth requires an adequate blood vessel network necessary for the transport of oxygen, nutrients, and hormones as well as a lymphatic vessel network for fluid homeostasis and immune cell trafficking.  My research focuses on the understanding of angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis, the formation of new blood and lymphatic vessels through the study of extrinsic and intrinsic regulators of endothelial cell physiology. Using both mouse and zebrafish model systems, I aim to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the formation of these vascular networks and their functionality with a particular emphasis on modelling human vascular disease.
