Media Relations

The CHU Sainte-Justine widespread reputation for the excellence of healthcare delivered to patients, for the quality of teaching and for the leadership of the Research Centre makes it a respected and frequently solicited source of information for the media.

Each year, the communications department receives and coordinates hundreds of requests from the media seeking medical information of every type: information on recent scientific discoveries, general information regarding paediatrics, requests for interviews with various specialists, and so on.

In order to respond to all media requests as quickly and efficiently as possible, the communications department has prepared a media relations policy. Here is an overview.

Our patients’ private lives

  • In order to protect the private lives of our patients and their families, all journalists, video/film crews and photographers absolutely must be accompanied by a member of the Communications Service while in the CHU Sainte-Justine or the Centre de réadaptation Marie Enfant.
  • No information concerning the state of the health of our patients will be disclosed to members of the media. However, in certain circumstances – generally at the request of the parents – medical personnel may talk about specific cases. A consent form must first be filled out and signed by the parents.
  • Any video, film or photographic images must first be approved by the parents of our patients. When these shots are taken a consent form must first be filled out and signed by the parents.

Requests for Interviews

  • Please contact the Communications Department at 514 345-7707 for all requests for interviews with medical personnel at the CHU Sainte-Justine.
  • Please advise the communications department in advance, at 514 345-7707, of the taping/filming/recording of any interview at the CHU Sainte-Justine, in order to coordinate the response to the various requests with the other activities of the communications department, and, especially, to ensure the necessary space is available at a convenient time.

Identifying our spokespersons

  • The representatives of the media are asked to identify medical personnel (or any other employee) of theCHU Sainte-Justine interviewed by their job title at Sainte-Justine’s.
