Dr. Biesecker is a clinical and molecular geneticist and Chief of the Medical Genomics and Metabolic Branch at the Genome Institute at NIH. He uses genomics to study genetic disorders, publishing nearly 300 research articles, reviews, and chapters and has elucidated the molecular basis of more than 15 disorders. He is as an editor or board member for six biomedical journals, was a director of the American Society of Human Genetics, an advisor to Illumina Corporation, and an advisor for the World Trade Center victim identification effort. He was recently elected to the National Academy of Medicine and has been nominated to the presidency of the American Society of Human Genetics for 2019.
