Fibrillin and fibronectin – critical matrix components for tissue function and cell signaling

Scientific conference

Friday 31 March 2017 from 12:00 at 13:00

  • Dieter P. Reinhardt, PhD
Professor and Canada Research Chair in Cell-Matrix Biology
McGill University, Faculty of Medicine, Dept. of Anatomy and Cell Biology and Faculty of Dentistry

Dr. Reinhardt is interested in extracellular matrix biology in normal and pathological situations. The focus of his research is on extracellular fiber systems, their supramolecular structures, and their functional contributions to tissue integrity and development in health and disease. He is internationally recognized for his original contributions to understanding the mechanisms and components involved in the extracellular microfibril/elastic fiber system. His laboratory has identified new components of this system and described many functional protein-protein interactions. He has made seminal contributions to the understanding of the complex assembly mechanism of this multi-protein aggregate in connective tissues. His laboratory further contributed to the discovery of pathogenetic pathways in connective tissue disorders such as the Marfan syndrome and others. He published 88 original articles and 19 reviews, book chapters, and commentaries in this field. His work has received international reputation as evidenced by more than 4,500 citations. Since 2006, he is holding a Canada Research Chair for Cell-Matrix Biology.
