Dr. Cristina Longo is a pediatric epidemiologist and Marie-Curie RESPIRE-3 postdoctoral fellow at the Academic Medical Center of the University of Amsterdam. She has expertise in pharmacoepidemiology and causal inference, and more recently, received training in precision medicine and machine learning methods for ‘omics’ data with applications to clinical decision-making in pediatric asthma. Her research output to date has contributed to the aims of: (1) understanding the etiology and evolution of childhood-onset asthma; and (2) characterizing pediatric asthma phenotypes and their response to guideline-based treatment.

The overarching goal of Dr. Longo’s research program is to improve asthma management and outcomes in children through bridging the gap between omics, epidemiology, and the clinic. In her seminar, she will discuss important challenges in the prevention and treatment of pediatric asthma as well as the potential of biomarker-based point-of-care tools, such as the electronic Nose, for the learning health care system and how technology-enhanced monitoring could possibly change the landscape of asthma management in children.
