Locomotor adaptations on irregular surfaces: insights to guide clinical management of gait

Friday 27 November 2020 from 12:00 at 13:00

  • Philippe Dixon, PhD
    • Assistant Professor, School of Kinesiology and Physical Education Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Montreal, 2020
    • Researcher, Centre de réadaptation Marie-Enfant - CHU Sainte-Justine, 2020

Walking is an inherently unstable activity in which balance is needed to remain steady and avoid falls. This stability challenge is increased in outdoor environments where irregular surfaces may be encountered.  This presentation describes how different populations adapt to the challenge of walking on uneven surfaces. An uneven surface walking framework could be used to develop or evaluate real-world walking proficiency during the gait rehabilitative process.
