Scientific Conference of Friday Noon - Jiangho (Jeff) Xi

From Metabolomics to Multi-omics

Friday 28 May 2021 from 12:00 at 13:00

Speaker

  • Jiangho (Jeff) Xia, PhD
    • Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair, Bioinformatics and big data analytics), McGill University, Montreal, Canada

Global metabolomics has the potential to greatly improve our understanding of metabolic responses under various pathophysiological conditions. However, its wide applications are currently limited by the lack of powerful computational solutions for efficient data processing, analysis and interpretation. To address this gap, we have made several key innovations that collectively enable a complete pipeline from raw LC-MS spectra to deep biological insights, now available online (MetaboAnalyst 5.0, www.metaboanalyst.ca).

Multi-omics studies have gradually become routine practices in biomedical research. New-generation tools are required to address the tremendous complexities during data analysis. We couple cutting-edge visualizations with advanced algorithms to enable intuitive multi-omics data analysis via knowledge-based networks (OmicsNet, www.omicsnet.ca), or data-driven approaches (OmicsAnalyst, www.omicsanalyst.ca). When time permits, I will also present our recent case studies based on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and COVID-19 datasets.
