Research in assistive and rehabilitation robotics is a growing, promising, and challenging field that emerged due to various social and medical needs such as aging populations, neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders. Such robots can be used in various day to day scenarios or to support motor functionality, training, and rehabilitation. Human-robot interaction (HRI) plays a crucial role in effectively incorporating robots in assistance and rehabilitation scenarios. This presentation reflects on the current issues and developments in the field and discusses future directions in biomedical HRI to be integrated with the research activities of the Polytechnique Laboratory for Assistive and Rehabilitation technologies (POLAR).
