Scientific Conference of Friday Noon - Meghan Ridell

Cell polarity and placental homeostasis: A role for atypital-protein kinase C isoforms

Friday 14 May 2021 from 12:00 at 13:00

  • Meghan Ridell, PhD
    • Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology & Physiology, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada

Proper placental formation and function is critical for the healthy development of the fetus.  Dysfunction of the syncytiotrophoblast, the cell that forms the placental side of the maternal/fetal interface is associated with the common pregnancy complication intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). We are interested in understanding how disruption of syncytiotrophoblast cell polarity may lead to the development of IUGR and the mechanisms through which cell polarity proteins regulate syncytiotrophoblast homeostasis and dysfunction.
