Scientific Conference of Friday Noon - Tom Kovesi

Indoor Air Quality and its Relationship to Severe Lower Respiratory infections in Canadian Indigenous Children

Friday 29 October 2021 from 12:00 at 13:00

  • Tom Kosevi, MD
    • Pediatric Respirologist, Professor of Pediatrics, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, and the University of Ottawa

Rates of lower respiratory tract infection in young Inuit and First Nations children are 30, and 3 times the national average, respectively. Our research has shown that these elevated rates are associated with overcrowding and reduced ventilation, and may be associated with indoor endotoxin. Factors generally affecting indoor environmental quality will also be reviewed.
