New Record for the 8th Annual Sainte-Justine’s Christmas Tree Campaign

Over 115 625 Lights Shine for Sick Children and Their Families!

MONTRÉAL, December 10, 2015 – Having spent three Christmases at CHU Sainte-Justine, Léa, our seven-year-old Le Grand sapin ambassador, marvelled at the dazzling tree shining with 115 625 shimmering beacons of hope for all the children who will be spending the holidays at the hospital, like she did. The record number of lights demonstrates the Quebec public’s ever-growing generosity and the vast number of people who felt moved to light up the lives of the children at CHU Sainte-Justine!

The impressive turnout by CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation donors, Rythme FM listeners and Metro grocery store customers made this eighth edition the most impressive and dazzling of all.  Live on Rythme FM’s Véro show, collaborators Véronique Cloutier and Marie-Soleil Michon, captivated by Léa’s charm and strength, were overjoyed by the extraordinary results.

“It was such an honour to have met Léa. Bright, lively and such a fighter, she was the perfect ambassador for all the children courageously battling an illness. It was her energy that inspired the entire Rythme FM team to double its efforts this year,” said Marie-Soleil Michon.

“I’m so touched to see more and more people buying lights for Le Grand sapin each year. Each light symbolizes a little bit of hope, a reassuring touch, the sentiment that ‘We are here with you. Don’t give up!’ Just reading the testimonials from families who have spent the holidays at CHU Sainte-Justine makes it clear how much this little gesture means and what great things it can accomplish. I am so proud that the entire province joined forces to support these children and their families in their struggle,” added Véronique Cloutier.

Renewing its commitment as major partner in the campaign for a second year, the extended Metro family announced its own record this year. “Not only are we honoured to work with the Foundation again, we are thrilled by the extraordinary participation of our customers and staff in our 207 grocery stores across the province. Together, they made a significant contribution to the new record by raising more than $200,000, which lit some 40 000 lights,”  said Marie‑Claude Bacon, Senior Director of Corporate Affairs for Metro Inc.

Brilliant collaborators

United in the quest to make CHU Sainte-Justine patients’  dreams of health and healing come true, several generous partners also played a big role in the campaign’s success. First, MEGA Bloks, through Club étoile, added five additional lights for every online purchase of ten or more lights. This new initiative contributed a staggering 8 000 lights to the tree. Vidéotron and Québecor also collaborated for the second consecutive year. Vidéotron doubled each donation made through its web and social media campaign, totalling some 1660 lights, and Québecor supported the cause through a publicity campaign on its media platforms.

We would also like thank Femmes de tête, femmes de chœur, a collective of 50 business leaders who support CHU Sainte-Justine. The group lit 5 000 lights, by donating part of the revenue from their album and concert ticket sales. Other contributors include Artea Illumination, a division of Groupe Artea, which designed the tree, and RBC Royal Bank, which added 2 000 lights through a challenge to Rythme FM listeners.

We also need to include Trio Orange Média, producer of the touching campaign video, and Nicolas Noël for his kind participation the project. Finally, for her courage and determination and her ability to inspire all who met her, thank you to Léa and her family, mom Stéphanie, dad Jean-François and brother Théo. For many, she will forever be the face of the children finding comfort and delight in this sparkling tree, shining brightly in their honour in front of CHU Sainte-Justine.
