Following a referral, the Asthma Research and Education Clinic (Clinique de Recherche et d’Enseignement en Asthme – CERA) evaluates and confirms the diagnosis, then outline proper treatments, thanks to:
-
Pulmonary function tests
-
Medical imaging
-
Blood samples
-
Allergy cutaneous tests
-
Bronchoscopy or other relevant tests (see information booklets)
The treatment is performed by educational, environmental and medical approaches. The structured teaching offered by the nurse is based on the patients' perception of the diagnosis and its consequences, in order to optimise the comprehension. It is also possible to maximise the medical recommendation observation, and help an adequate administration technique for the medication.
If the patient needs the care of a long-term specialist, the CERA doctor provides the proper follow-up. Otherwise, the patient is sent back to his/her attending physician with the specialist’s written recommendations.
