The main goal of the Clinical Research and Knowledge Transfer Unit on Childhood Asthma (CRUCA) of the Research Centre of Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center is to improve the assessment, management, treatment, and health service delivery offered to children with asthma.
The CRUCA trains undergraduate and postgraduate students at the master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral level to prepare new researchers.
The leading investigator is Dr Francine M. Ducharme, Professor in the Department of Paediatrics and of the Department Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Montreal. She leads a productive career as a paediatrician, caring primarily for asthmatic children. She is also a teacher, a research mentor, and a clinical epidemiologist. She has trained numerous scientists and physicians, many of whom hold academic positions in Australia, Canada, the United States, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Kuwait and the United Kingdom. Dr. Ducharme has been a paediatric co-editor of the Cochrane Airways Review Group since its inception in 1995. Her research program has led to numerous publications, invited talks and research awards. In addition, she co-authored the adult and paediatric Canadian Asthma Consensus statements, as well as several international statements.
