Neurocardiology Investigation
Clinique d’investigation neuro-cardiaque (CINC)
The Clinique d’investigation neuro-cardiaque (CINC) was established to assist children born with complex congenital heart disease who require surgery during their early years.
Some of the children suffering from complex congenital heart disease and requiring surgery are at a higher risk of developing neurodevelopmental disorders. For instance:
- Delays in motor skills and coordination development;
- Problems with feeding;
- Language delays;
- Behaviour disorders;
- Social interaction problems;
- Learning disabilities.
Hence, neurodevelopmental monitoring is crucial. Where developmental delays are present, several risk factors come into play such as genetics, the complexity of the heart disease, treatments involved, the length of time spent in the hospital and the condition of the child’s health.
