Oculoplasty
The CHU Sainte-Justine Oculoplasty Clinic performs surgery about the structures surrounding the eye, with eyelid anomalies being the most frequent occurrence.
For example, a flabby eyelid (blepharoptosis), sometimes present at birth, can be corrected surgically. Lacrimal duct anomalies represent the second most common subject of oculoplastic surgery. A blocked tear duct causes excessive tearing often accompanied by infections. Various procedures can be used to unblock it, restoring the normal tear drainage through the nasal cavities.
Finally, eye socket surgery treats lesions around or behind the eye. Such procedures are often complex and time-consuming. In certain cases, such procedures require the participation of several surgeons (neurosurgeon, otorhinolaryngologist or craniofacial surgeon) along with the oculoplastician, as a multidisciplinary team.
