The general Ophthalmology Clinic treats patients referred by paediatricians, family physicians or optometrists. The clinic specialists generally treat children affected by strabismus, amblyopia, cataracts or congenital dacryostenosis, as well as emergency cases related to trauma or acute ocular disorders.
The general Ophthalmology Clinic is also the first stage to access subspecialty services when a patient’s needs or care requires a more specialised approach, such as glaucoma, prematurity, retina, uveitis, neuro-ophthalmology and oculoplasty.
Children are treated and monitored for the time necessary until their ocular problem stabilised, and can then referred back to a general ophthalmologist or optometrist in their area.
