Art therapy was first introduced at the CHU Sainte-Justine in 2005, as part of its Hematology-Oncology Program. The team is composed of a music therapist and art therapist.
Associated with the Department of Psychology, art therapy is considered as a professional practice of therapeutic interventions. It is employed in specific situations in the care continuum, from prevention to interventions that target particular issues. The therapists work in close collaboration with other health care professionals and clinical care teams in order to ensure that the interventions are appropriate to the patient’s needs.
Art therapy is a process of self-expression that enables patients to work through what they are experiencing at their own pace. The overall goal of these therapeutic interventions is to help patients cope with changes brought on by their illness or to support them through the course of their treatment in order to resume their normal psychosocial development.
Our therapists hold a Master’s in Art Therapy and Music Therapy and are certified members of their respective professional orders.
