Sexual Abuse

Sexual abuse is an offense in which the abuser:

  • uses physical, emotional or material manipulation with intent to obtain sexual gratification;
  • uses their position of authority over the child to achieve sexual gratification;
  • engages the child in sexual activities with or without their consent;
  • uses a child in sexual activities that are inappropriate for their age and development;
  • lures or forces a child to engage in sexual activities;
  • perpetrates the abuse no matter the age, sex, culture, religion, or sexual orientation between them and their victim1
  • perpetrates the abuse regardless of the nature of their relationship with the victim2.
