What is the Mediterranean diet?

It is not a restrictive diet for weight loss. It is rather a set of lifestyle habits that are associated with good general health and the prevention of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The main principles are:

  1. Eat fresh and minimally processed foods such as vegetables and fruits, whole grain products and plant-based proteins (legumes, tofu, nuts) every day.
  2. Eat fish and seafood, poultry, eggs and dairy products often.
  3. Use vegetable fats, especially olive or canola oil.
  4. Occasionally eat red meat, processed meats and sweets.
  5. Take advantage of meals to spend quality time with family and friends.

Did you know that?

Incorporating one principle of the Mediterranean diet into your habits is positive for your and your family’s health.

This workshop presents general strategies for gradually integrating the Mediterranean diet into your lifestyle:

  • Vegetables and Fruits
  • Fish and plant-based proteins
  • Whole grains
  • Vegetable oils

Three capsules refer to this topic and show cooking demonstrations of recipes for homemade popcorn, quinoa with vegetables and fish croquettes (approved by children!):

Also, this brochure summarizes the information on the Mediterranean diet.

You can also directly consult the recipe section.
