Verbal dyspraxia: Care and services offered

at CHU Sainte-Justine

As a third- and fourth-line hospital centre, the objective of CHU Sainte-Justine together with its speech and language department is to offer specialized and highly-specialized services to children with severe language and speech disorders or children with complex medical or neurodevelopmental disorders and direct them to secondary care rehabilitation services such as those offered at the Marie-Enfant Rehabilitation Centre.

For assessment purposes your child will be seen by one of our speech and language pathologist in one of our clinics. A diagnostic assessment will be offered. Some assessment meetings will be scheduled for:

  • Determining the communication, language, speech or swallowing profile of your child, in relation to your child’s disorders or difficulties;
  • Identifying the nature of your child’s disorders or difficulties (delay versus language impairment or speech versus another impairment).
  • Providing you with information about the objectives of an intervention plan so you may incorporate those goals into your day-to-day life;
  • Referring you to the appropriate services.
