Fetal-maternal clinic [Clinique de médecine foeto-maternelle (MFM)]
The fetal-maternal medicine clinics are specialized clinics for pregnant women at risk of pregnancy complications due to their health and/or the health of their unborn child. Those at risk may include women who have been previously affected by pregnancy complications such as preterm birth, pre-eclampsia, a low birth weight baby, miscarriage, and perinatal death. This may also include women with medical conditions that may deteriorate with pregnancy or may complicate pregnancy such as chronic hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, a bleeding disorder, or an autoimmune disease. And they may also be women who have had a child with a birth defect or a genetic condition in the past and now require special follow-up care during subsequent pregnancies.
